Update Humly Sensor Gateway

To update Humly Sensor Gateway (HSG), run the installer of the new version over the old one. Your sensors, settings, MQTT logins and pairing stay in place. Do not uninstall first.

Before you update

  • Note the current version. The dashboard shows it next to the name in the top left, for example v2.5.0.
  • Check the release notes for anything to do before or after the update.
  • Plan a short break in readings. HSG stops for a minute or two during the update. Readings sent during that time are lost.
  • Back up the data folder:
    • Windows: C:\ProgramData\Humly\SensorGateway
    • Linux: /home/<user>/Humly/SensorGateway/application_data

Update on Windows

  1. Run the new HsgInstaller_v<version>.exe as an administrator.
  2. Follow the wizard. Your port, log level and Humly Control Panel details are kept. You do not need to enter passwords again.
  3. Wait for the installer to finish. It restarts the services.

The installer saves a copy of the database as hsg.db.backup_<date> in the data folder.

Update on Linux

  1. Copy the new archive to the server and extract it:
    tar -xzf hsg_installation_v<version>.tar.gz
    cd v<version>
  2. Run the installer as the same user that ran the first installation:
    sudo bash install.sh
  3. The installer finds the existing installation and keeps your settings. It does not ask the setup questions again.
  • The installer saves a copy of the database as application_data/hsg.db.backup_<date>.
  • If the update fails, it restores the previous version.

After the update

  1. Sign in to the dashboard and check the new version number in the top left.
  2. On the Sensors page, check that sensors return to Online. LoRaWAN sensors come back at their next uplink. MQTT sensors reconnect on their own.
  3. Under Settings > HCP pairing, check that the status is Paired.
